March 2017 Social Media Review

March was a month full of winter storms and warm sweaters, but it also brought the return of evening sunshine with even longer days still ahead! March may have seemed like a long month, but the content produced by #UNHSocial made the month feel short. There was certainly no lack of content as we shared many amazing stories. Read on for some of our March 2017 highlights…


Smuttynose Brewing Company and the University of New Hampshire partnered to brew a session ale to celebrate our 150th anniversary. We reached almost 100,000 people with this video post on Facebook and had more than 35,000 video views. The top audience for this post were men, aged 25–34.

The entire social media push was done organically. Visit UNH Today to read more about the collaboration and what else UNH has in store, including an all new minor in brewing science coming this fall to Durham, New Hampshire.

Did you know that Laurel Thatcher Ulrich, the woman who created the quote, “Well-behaved women seldom make history,” received her Ph.D. from UNH in 1980?

On International Women’s Day, we posted this fantastic photo of Ulrich that was well-received by our audience. Many students and alumni were not aware that the quote they see on bumper stickers, t-shirts, mugs, and cards was originated by a Wildcat.

The Facebook post reached almost 90,000 people with 426 shares, including many alumni all over the country.

The UNH Facebook Page earned 404 new likes in the month of March 2017 bringing us to 47,220 fans.


One of the first times we used the Twitter Live feature, which allows us to create live video directly from the social media platform, was at the #WornWear Repair Fair event with patagonia and Trash to Treasure with help from Alex Freid ’13 and the Post-Landfill Action Network (PLAN). Due to weather conditions, the event took place inside the Memorial Union Building on campus with many vendors for staff and students to visit, including Stonyfield Yogurt, Patagonia, and area consignment and thrift shops. The tweet earned over 2,500 impressions with 354 media views. #UNHSocial will continue to use the live video feature on many platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, so look for more coming soon.

We received 487 new Twitter followers in the month of March, making it 61 straight months of increasing our followers on the platform. Our total audience is now at 22,870.


During Spring Break, #UNHSocial worked with students to have a Takeover performed each day on Snapchat. From Alternative Break Challenge (ABC) to NH Girls Technology Day, to the UNH Paul College student networking trip to Washington, D.C. and more, we had some great, authentic student content on display.

One of the March highlights was Junior Dance and Psychology double major Saege Robinson. She shared her story as a student, dance and psychology major, and as a member of the UNH Dance Company.

The top photo on our Instagram was a re-post of Matt Santangelo ’19. From time to time, we love to share photos taken by students. Share the love, right? Especially when they’re sharing tremendous images like this one…

This photo received 2,237 likes with some very positive comments. We agree, what a beautiful shot, Matt! In the end, the UofNH Instagram account earned 288 new followers for at total of 18,064 and an engagement rate of 4.03% for March 2017.


Our top LinkedIn post earned more than 27,700 impressions with an engagement rate of 1.67%. We acquired 23 new fans for a total of 90,654 followers on our newly revamped LinkedIn page with over 81,000 self-identifying as alumni. Follow us on LinkedIn here:
